Navigating Tariff Policies Together

Posted by Bobbi Williams on

Dear Parents,

New tariff policies bring challenges for our community. With Chinese imports now subject to a 145% tariff (versus lower rates for other countries), here's what you should know:

Our Strengths:

  • We already prioritize non-Chinese products for ethical and environmental reasons
  • Many of our carefully selected items will remain minimally affected
  • We're uniquely positioned to adapt with creative solutions

Potential Impacts:

  • Some essential items (such as baby carriers, pumping/nursing supplies, baby care items, sleep sacks) may see significant price increases
  • Certain products might become temporarily limited in availability
  • Some suppliers may exit the US market
  • Small business viability and US-made product prices are at risk, potentially impacting community access to goods

Our Solutions:

  • We're securing short-term supplies of essentials, and will actively look for alternatives as impacts become more clear
  • We're exploring customer trade-up programs and considering expanding our rental options
  • We're considering ways we can bring you more savings such as subscription options or rewards plans
  • We plan to add the option to pay directly with your FSA/HSA card for eligible products and classes
  • We're seeking to expand our scholarship program to ensure access for lower-income families and doulas in training
  • We're planning more baby swap events to encourage resource sharing within the community
  • We continue to accept your donations of essentials  like diapers, wipes, formula, baby clothing, and sealed baby and postpartum items for families in need

We recommend planning ahead for your family's upcoming needs - while there is no need for panic buying, we do encourage you to consider making purchases in advance now based on your anticipated needs. Together, we'll navigate these changes while continuing to support sustainable, ethical choices for families.
